Snowboarding and Snow Skiing
From sun to snow
Although most people associate Arizona with scorching hot weather, it is surprising to learn that Arizona gets it's fair share of snow.
If you head about two hours north of Phoenix, you will run into a small college city named Flagstaff. Flagstaff is home to the tallest peak in Arizona where you can find Snowbowl Ski Resort. The resort recently added new lifts in order to make sure you are able to get up the mountain quickly and not have to wait around to enjoy the mountain. They also recently started making their own snow, which allows them to stay open longer in the season, a huge benefit for season pass holders. Snowbowl also includes a terrain park for the more experienced crowd. Multiple lodges are spread around the trails allowing for customers to grab food or a drink while enjoying their time on the mountain. After your day for boarding/skiing, it is a quick trip back to Flagstaff where you can find plenty of restaurants, bars and other things to do.
About three hours east of Phoenix, you will find Sunrise Park Resort located in the White Mountains in the Showlow/Pinetop area. The Resort includes lifts and runs for all experience levels and includes a terrain park with jumps and rails. At the resort, you can also find an area where you can go tubing if skiing/boarding isn't your cup of tea.
Located near the city of Tucson, you can find Mt. Lemmon Ski Valley. This mountain isn't as large as the other two Arizona resorts, but if you live in the Tucson area and are wanting to get some time on the slopes without driving hours, this place definitely gets the job done. Back in Tucson, you can find the University of Arizona as well as plenty of places to go out.
